A IS FOR AUTOCRAT BOOK DESIGN

Conceived and completed in a fever pitch over eight weeks in collaboration with illustrator and writer DB Dowd, the book captures a moment in time. Direct, poetic, satirical, beautifully designed and illustrated, A is for Autocrat scratches several itches. Based loosely on traditional alphabet book designs, each letter is assigned a relevant concept and provocatively realized in word and image. I wanted to pay homage to this typographical construct by allowing each letter/word meaning stay true to itself yet collectively read as a cohesive visual story. A nourishing work of art for a difficult time, and a concise record of a historic episode. I’m thinking we could fill a shelf with sequels. In the meantime, buy the book here.

We wanted an easy way to publicize the book and send personal notes to colleagues and influencers, so we reconfigured 10 pages into a set of postcards.

To get people excited and ready to pre order the book, we created a series of short animations which were posted over a 2 week period.
